Gastric Bypass: The Mini-Invasive Excellence of Antoine Béclère

Advantages and Rigorous Follow-Up

  • Benefits: Less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, and faster recovery
  • Structured Care: Standardized clinical pathway and postoperative follow-up protocol
  • Long-term care: Lifelong vitamin supplementation required

An Exclusive Innovation Where Others Follow the Standard

While most centers perform gastric bypass surgery using 4 to 6 trocars (standard technique), our team at Antoine Béclère Hospital has pushed the boundaries:

We master a pioneering 3-trocar mini-invasive technique—developed in our own operating rooms and validated by several years of clinical success.

The Procedure at a Glance

The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass involves:

  1. Creating a small gastric pouch (~30 ml) by dividing the stomach.
  2. Connecting this pouch to the small intestine (gastrojejunal anastomosis), thereby bypassing a portion of the digestive tract.
  3. Restoring bilio-pancreatic continuity further down the intestine (jejunojejunal anastomosis).

 Duration:  1h 30 min to 3 hours

Technique: Laparoscopic (3–4 trocars), Robotic (4 trocars)

Clearly Defined Indications

Gastric bypass is particularly recommended in the following cases:

  • Pathological obesity with severe gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Failure of previous bariatric surgery (in cases of insufficient weight loss or weight regain resulting in total weight loss <10% of initial weight)

Procedure Overview

  • Hospital admission the day before surgery
  • Operation performed in the morning
  • Usually no drains or gastric tubes required
  • 48-hour fasting period
  • Gradual reintroduction of food following a specific (fractionated) diet plan, supervised by the hospital dietitian
  • Discharge after 3 to 4 days with painkillers, gastric protection, and anticoagulant therapy
